Going through life, a person develops a way of approaching others as though they were walking expressions, outward attitudes, that most people can read quite quickly. This is very important since, whether we like it or not, first impressions tend to last. While you cannot read a book by its cover, you can certainly be attracted to it enough to make you want to read it and discover what is inside. The same goes for people.

You have seen people, overly selfish and greedy, who go through life grabbing everything for themselves. That type of personality is immediately visible and turns most people off. Then there are others who are pushy, arrogant, and critical towards everyone and everything. That attitude wears thin quickly, and you are likely to abandon such a relationship as soon as possible. These negative types of people seem to be at war with society and even themselves. Then there are the "leaners" who will, by virtue of their lazy personality, try to make you carry them through life. You do not have to. It's not your job.

If you want to enjoy people and allow free expression in your relationships, the secret is to be at peace with yourself, confident in who you are and what you are doing. I do not mean being egotistical, but knowing you are doing the best job you can.

People respond to a person who has a smile on his face and a gentle, positive attitude. It is important you maintain relationships with only those who give you a lift and are supportive of what you are doing. If you have the right attitude, then you can be with anyone who has a similar attitude and ignore those who do not.

In fact, I have developed a mantra or motto: "Every Day Is Christmas." The gifts I give are a pleasant attitude, genuine honesty, and willingness to be of service. Aren't these the best gifts one could receive or give during the holiday season and every day of the year? If so, then every day would be Christmas!
