The latest addition to our "store of happiness" is the Scottish Rite Foundation Charitable Gift Annuity Program. A charitable gift annuity is an agreement between a qualified charity and an individual. You can make a wonderful contribution to a charity while benefiting from lifetime payments, professional management of assets, and tax savings. The Scottish Rite Foundation, Southern Jurisdiction, is offering this attractive charitable gift annuity program to members and friends. We will be able to offer this program in most states. Please contact our Development Office at 18004863331, ext. 143, to see if we can establish a charitable gift annuity in your state.
The Scottish Rite Foundation Charitable Gift Annuity Program will pay a fixed income for the life of one or two people. The minimum contribution to the Scottish Rite Foundation Charitable Gift Annuity Program is $5,000. The Scottish Rite Donor Recognition Program will recognize your charitable gift annuity. Contributors of $10,000 or more will have a bronze nameplate placed on the appropriate panel in the Hall of Recognition located in the House of the Temple.
We hope you will consider the new Scottish Rite Foundation Charitable Gift Annuity Program. It is straightforward and consists of a simple legal agreement between the Scottish Rite Foundation, Southern Jurisdiction, and an individual. The individual transfers cash or securities to the Scottish Rite Foundation, and the donor receives fixed quarterly payments for the rest of his or her lifetime. An additional lifetime beneficiary may be added, if desired. If a donor uses appreciated securities, he or she may be able to avoid the tax on a portion of the capital gain in the security. A donor may give a low-yielding asset to increase his or her income, since a charitable gift annuity may have a higher yield and be taxed more favorably. The income stream is based on the age of the people receiving the lifetime payments. (See chart below.) A part of this quarterly lifetime income stream is a tax-free return of principal.
