It is with deep and mixed emotions that I share with you my decision to retire as Director of Development for the Scottish Rite Foundation, S. J., U.S.A. Thus, I must end my "proprietorship" of our wonderful "Store of Happiness" where, for 80 articles in this series, you have done your "shopping" and found ways to help our beloved Scottish Rite while also benefiting yourself and your family.

The "store," however, will remain open under the stewardship of Ill. Earl E. Ihle, Jr., 33°. Bro. Earl is well qualified and has been assisting with this column for many months. He is a dynamic young Brother whose expertise will keep the "shelves" of our store well stocked to assist you in earning more income and reducing your taxes while also assisting our Order and helping children across our Jurisdiction through your support of the Scottish Rite Foundation, S.J. He has promised to always be available with new and exciting "products," and he will respond to your inquiries as quickly as possible.

Earl is creating new systems and developing fresh ideas that will not only streamline the operations of the Foundation but will also make available a team of assistants throughout the Southern Jurisdiction to help you locally. They will live in or near your Valley and will be honored to serve you and the Fraternity. If you haven't been asked yet, step up and volunteer—just write or call Earl for an assignment. Each Orient will have its own committee to serve you, and each committee will have well-trained members available to give you information and assistance.

I'm not retiring because of age or health, although I am getting a little gray around the edges, but because I'm back in school working on my Doctor of Ministry Degree. It is requiring far more time than I expected, and I wouldn't be a Brother and friend if, for even one minute, I wouldn't be available to serve your needs and those of the Fraternity. Furthermore, my new church in an economically depressed area of downtown Los Angeles is also growing wonderfully and requiring more of my attention. Also, my duties at First Friends Church in Whittier, California, are increasing. In addition, I have been selected to serve as Chaplain at Rio Hondo College in Whittier, a school with 17,000 students. Finally, my duties at both the California and Whittier Hospitals are a constant interruption to my obligation to you and the Fraternity. Talk about a full plate!

Throughout the many years I have been writing this "Where Do You Do Your Shopping?" column, you have given me a deep friendship that is without parallel. I've learned that life is to be fortified by such friendship and that to love and be loved is the greatest happiness of existence. I have promised always to be available to Brother Earl and to anyone in the Jurisdiction when needed. Thus, I will stay on as Co-Chairman of the Subcommittee on Development and be available to assist in the development efforts of the Supreme Council. Then, in about two years down the road, when I should be finished with my studies, maybe I can resume, with renewed vigor and vitality, my activities with the Scottish Rite Foundation. Plus, I may have a little more knowledge between the ears! Remember my "ad" for today and tomorrow:

Life is not a goblet to be emptied,
But a measure to be filled!
