The Scottish Rite's Donor Recognition Program, reviewed in this article, is a successful way of showing appreciation to our donors.

This year, as in the past, we have been able to recognize many new individuals who have found it in their hearts to make a gift to the Scottish Rite's charities. Through pledges, bequests in wills, outright gifts of cash or property, gifts in the form of trusts or gift annuities, and gifts to the pooled income fund, these individuals make the Scottish Rite charities a resounding success. Through the generosity of these donors, the Scottish Rite has been able to grant more scholarships to deserving students, and scholarships have been awarded to some of the members of families of victims of the 9/11 terrorist attacks through the Families of Freedom Scholarship Fund®. In addition, several new RiteCare Childhood Language Program facilities have been established to help more of America's children. We are even prouder to announce that four new portraits have been or are soon to be added to the Supreme Temple Architects Hall of Honor in recognition of these individuals' significant gifts to the Scottish Rite charities: Bro. George E. Dewese, 32°, K.C.C.H.; Ill. Henry Yaskal, 33°; Ill. Harold Lloyd Gwatney, 33°; and Col. Joseph H. S. Smith, 32°. The commissioned oil portraits received into the Hall of Honor recognize gifts of $1,000,000 or more to the Scottish Rite Foundation, S.J., USA, Inc., or to the House of the Temple Historic Preservation Foundation, Inc., and are reserved for Scottish Rite Masons. These donors are titled Supreme Temple Architects. The Hall of Honor portraits are limited to 33 donors. Of the 33 spaces in the Hall of Honor, only one space remains available.

Our pledge program is going well, too. Initiated two years ago, the pledge program is bringing more commitments each year from members. Under the pledge program, the person making the pledge can benefit the House of the Temple Historic Preservation Foundation, Inc., the Scottish Rite Foundation, Southern Jurisdiction, USA, Inc., or a local Scottish Rite Foun- dation. If you don't know about the program, here is a brief explanation.

Under the pledge program, an individual may pledge to donate a certain sum per year for a period of up to five years or may agree to satisfy the pledge through a specific bequest in the pledgor's will. We recently received a $1,000,000 pledge from the widow of a Scottish Rite Mason that will be fulfilled through a bequest in her will. As a result of the pledge, her late husband will be honored with an oil portrait displayed in the Hall of Honor. Anybody who makes a pledge is recognized according to the Scottish Rite Donor Recognition Program for the full amount of that pledge at the time the commitment is made, rather than when it is fully paid. For example, if you pledge $2,000 a year for five years to the Scottish Rite Foundation, Southern Jurisdiction, we will immediately recognize this $10,000 commitment through the Scottish Rite Donor Recognition Program. You will be recognized as a Patron, and we will display your name on a bronze nameplate in the Hall of Recognition. In addition, your name will be inscribed in the Gold Book of Recognition. At the $10,000 giving level, you will also receive a beautiful Scottish Rite crystal vase as a token of appreciation for your wonderful support of the Scottish Rite Foundation, S.J. A convenient pledge form is provided at the conclusion of this article.

Through the Scottish Rite Donor Recognition Program, our donors' names are inscribed in the Gold Book of Recognition located in the Supreme Council Library, on bronze nameplates in one of the Halls of Recognition, on prominently displayed portraits in the Supreme Temple Architects Hall of Honor, and on bronze plaques in the Pillars of Charity Alcove. We are constantly adding new names to the Gold Book and beautiful nameplates to the Halls of Recognition.

We also are very pleased to announce an addition to the Scottish Rite Donor Recognition Program: The Pillars of Charity Portrait Gallery at the House of the Temple. The Pillars of Charity Portrait Gallery will honor individuals who donate $1,000,000 or more to the House of the Temple Historic Preservation Foundation, Inc., or the Scottish Rite Foundation, Southern Jurisdiction, USA, Inc. This Portrait Gallery is not reserved for Scottish Rite Masons, but is open to any friend of the Scottish Rite who makes the requisite donation. As in the Hall of Honor, an oil portrait in the Pillars of Charity will honor a person who donates $1,000,000 or more to the House of the Temple Historic Preservation Foundation, Inc., or the Scottish Rite Foundation, Southern Jurisdiction, USA, Inc. However, in the spirit of our partnership with our local Scottish Rite Foundations, we also will honor in the Pillars of Charity Portrait Gallery those individuals who divide their gifts between a local Scottish Rite Foundation and the House of the Temple Historic Preservation Foun- dation, Inc., or the Scottish Rite Foundation, Southern Jurisdiction, USA, Inc. As long as $500,000 of the gift of $1,000,000 or more is designated for either the House of the Temple Historic Preservation Foundation, Inc., or to the Scottish Rite Foundation, Southern Juris- diction, USA, Inc., the donor will qualify for this recognition. We are proud to announce that we already have two donors who qualify for a portrait in this new place of honor: Mrs. Vee Hansen Lohmann and Mrs. Syble Everee Gwatney.
