Job's Daughters provides members, like Carrie Trullinger (pictured
below), with many opportunities for service and success.
On
Monday, March 25, 2002, members of Mosaic Lodge No. 184, in Broomfield,
Colorado, welcomed Carrie Trullinger. Carrie is a Past Honored
Queen of Bethel No. 37, International Order of Job's Daughters,
and is a first runner-up in an International Order of Job's Daughters
speaking competition.
Many of the local groups of Job's Daughters have competitions
with awards for outstanding achievement. They also participate
in national and international competitions. At such an international
competition, Carrie ranked second in the world for doing a 15-minute
formal recitation, from memory, before a team of judges. She missed
being number one in the world by only a tenth of a point. All
this for a young lady who is barely 16 years old and who just
received her driver's license! Carrie performed her world-competition
recitation, "The Story of Job," before the Broomfield
Masons. At the end of her recitation, she received a well-deserved
standing ovation from a group of men who themselves are no strangers
to speaking before groups. She then explained the history of Job's
Daughters and highlighted its many activities. Carrie's Bethel
is one of the most active and growing groups around. She said,
"As a club for girls, we have great fun doing lots of interesting
things, and we get to wear a really neat uniform." Carrie
has been involved with Job's Daughters since age 11 and credits
it with helping her develop the poise, confidence, leadership,
and organizational ability she demonstrated so well in her presentation
to the Freemasons.
Job's Daughters is an organization for young women that can help
them learn important skills for life-leadership, organization,
teamwork, and self-reliance-as they work to help their community.
Each Job's Daughter honors a rich heritage that has been a part
of this Masonic youth group since 1920. But most importantly,
they have fun doing the things that young women like to do. Job's
Daughters plan and share a lot of fun activities such as arts
and crafts, photography, sewing, and creative writing, just to
name a few. Also, girls participate in sports including soccer,
softball, volleyball, swimming, and bowling. They like to sing
and dance, too! In addition, Job's Daughters play an important
role in serving their communities. For instance, they visit hospitals
and homes for the elderly to offer friendship and cheer to people
who might otherwise be lonely and sad. Food drives and other civic
activities provide for the less fortunate. The Order's Hearing-Impaired
Kid's Endowment, the HIKE fund, provides hearing assistive devices
for children in need. Popular "Hikes for HIKE" provide
a special charitable service, and this work with hearing-impaired
children has led the members of many Bethels to learn sign language.
Job's Daughters are rightfully proud to be "kids helping
kids."
